How to Take Care of Shoulder Pain With Physical Therapy

Postby ChrisDukarski » Mon May 22, 2017 10:52 am

Shoulder pain is the third most common musculoskeletal disorder, following low back and neck pain. One of the most common injuries is called shoulder impingement syndrome, a most common cause of shoulder pain.

Your physician may classify the syndrome as either a primary or secondary impingement. A primary impingement is caused by the structural anatomy of the sub-acromial region. Your physician may determine through Xray that you have an abnormal variation in the shape of your acromion process. A type 3 “hooked” acromion makes you more susceptible to impingement and this may require surgical intervention to correct.

Techniques such as ART, Graston, and Cupping Therapy are used to release these adhesions. In some cases, the symptoms of rotator cuff tendonitis can be due to active trigger points in your infraspinatus muscle. Trigger point therapy can be very effective.
